Record number of gold medals means lots of free food for Fraberts customers!

March 2

Fraberts Fresh Food handed out nearly $300 in free groceries thanks to the wonderful performance of our Olympic athletes in Vancouver and Whistler over the past two weeks.  Canadians won fourteen gold medals during the Vancouver 2010 Olympics, a record performance for the Winter Games.

“We are real Olympic fans and wanted to celebrate with our customers,” stated Jackie Fraser, who owns Fraberts Fresh Food with her husband, Chef Derek Roberts.  “This was the best Olympics ever for Canada and it was fun to come in nearly every day and reward a customer for our athletes’ gold medal performances.”

Ballots were available for customers to fill out each time they shopped at Fraberts and one was drawn every time Canada won gold.  Congratulations to Lindsay Burnett, Joanne Wooddisse, Michelle Offer, Avis McFarlane, Colleen Cox, Patti Klein, Diane, Kathy Fitzpatrick, Dianna Burns, Jane McDougall, Lois Lanktree, Heather Pederson, Melissa Seagrove, and Angela Murphy who all won $20 in Fraberts gift certificates.

“We are so proud of our athletes’ performances over the past two weeks,” Fraser continued.  “It was great to see our customers and Canadians everywhere get into the Olympic spirit.  Come by the store to see our Wall of Olympic Gold.”

Happy New Year!

January 12

We hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday season. The Fraberts family certainly did as we welcomed its newest member. Emily Jacquelyn Roberts was born on December 13 and she kept us very busy throughout Christmas. Charlotte is thrilled with her new little sister!

$800 Raised for Centre Wellington Food Bank

Thanks to our generous customers for raising nearly $400 for the Centre Wellington Food Bank, up 33% from last year. Fraberts will match this amount and top it up to $800. This will provide fresh bananas, apples, oranges and other fresh fruit and vegetables for Food Bank clients, who have doubled in number over the past year as a result of the economic downturn.

Winter Cooking Classes

Back by popular demand – we are hosting an “Easy Appetizers for Entertaining” cooking class on Monday, February 8, from 7-9pm. Come on out for an evening of cooking, eating, and fun! Cost is $45 – take home what you make! Classes are limited to 8 participants – book your spot early by calling 226-383-7374 to avoid disappointment!

More cooking classes to come – send us your suggestions. We also do cooking classes for groups – get your friends or colleagues together for a fun night out!

Fraberts to Carry Scottish and British Treats – Just in Time for Robbie Burns!

Fraberts is very sad to see our neighbours, the Wee Scottish Shop, closing their doors. The Fergus Marketplace and all of Fergus will really miss them. We wish Angie and Jamie all the best in their future endeavours.

The Wee Scottish Shop sold quality Scottish and other British foods and Fraberts will try to fill that void by carrying some of their most popular items. Everything you need for your Robbie Burns celebrations (January 25) will be here (e.g. haggis). Well, except for the scotch….

Wanted!

We are looking for your favourite recipe(s)! Maybe it’s a family favourite, a cultural tradition, or simply something you are proud of. Every month we will pick 1 or 2 favourites and feature them in the store. So start digging out those recipes and bring them into Chef Derek or email them to droberts@frabertsfreshfood.com (make sure you include your name and phone number). Monthly winners will receive a $25 gift certificate….and bragging rights, of course!
